Dev blog: An update to storage

Release Date 07.09.2026

Storage is getting a rebalance. Container capacity will be based on its physical footprint, with bonuses for tier and size. Dedicated bulk storage will hold more, while many shelves and other furniture containers will hold less.

Already placed

Your current capacity stays

  • Containers already in the world keep their current capacity when the update goes live.

New, packed up or moved

The new capacity applies

  • Newly placed containers use the rebalanced values.
  • Packing up or moving an existing container also means it loses its old capacity.

Why storage is changing

Container capacities used to be set individually. Over time, the values drifted: a Fancy Storage Shelf occupying 0.61 m² held 500 volume, while a Large Storage Platform occupying 21 m² held only 1,800. Building more shelves was often better than using the platforms designed for bulk storage.

Basing capacity on footprint, tier and size gives storage a more consistent progression. Better tiers and larger containers mean more storage. Overall storage available per plot will decrease because small shelves previously held so much.
